Amy Jones - Women & Girls Club Development Officer, Cheshire Cricket

My journey into cricket started in a way that many people can relate to. I was first introduced to the game at a primary school after-school club by a teacher, though at the time I wasn’t especially keen to get involved. It wasn’t until secondary school, when a Cheshire coach delivered sessions, that I rediscovered cricket and began to really enjoy it. From there, I started playing more regularly and developed a genuine passion for the game. Then during university I discovered a love for the gym and physical development, which ultimately led me to combine both interests into a career.

I am now the Women and Girls Club Development Officer at Cheshire Cricket Board, where I lead the development of the women’s and girls’ game across Warrington and Trafford. My role involves supporting clubs to grow and sustain participation, creating more opportunities for women and girls to get involved, and strengthening player pathways. Alongside this, I head up Strength and Conditioning and physical development and coaching within the performance pathway.

My proudest moments come from hearing directly from the girls I work with; whether it’s increased confidence, feeling stronger, or simply feeling like they belong in the game. Seeing that personal growth alongside their development as players is what makes the work so meaningful. One of my proudest achievements in the game was also founding the Newcastle University Women’s Cricket team during my time as a student, which grew to attract over 50 female players. I graduated two years ago, but I still regularly check in and it’s brilliant to see the team continuing to thrive and develop.

A key part of my role is supporting coaches through CPD and wider knowledge sharing, helping to build confidence and consistency in how we approach physical preparation across the game. The ºÚÁÏרÇø Metro Bank Evolve Pillar has been a crucial part of my own development within this space, providing invaluable support in helping female coach developers grow, develop confidence, and strengthen their impact across the game. I’m passionate about continuing to build on this by delivering CPD, sharing best practice, and contributing at events such as the 2026 Network Live Women and Girls Conference. By working collaboratively and upskilling coaches, we can better support clubs, help more girls thrive, reduce injury risk, and keep players in the game for longer.

To any woman or girl thinking about getting involved in cricket: give it a go...you might surprise yourself with what you can achieve.Â
