ºÚÁÏרÇø paid tribute to Oslear

Umpire, who stood in five Tests, eight ODIs and 360 first-class games, passed away at the age of 89.

The ºÚÁÏרÇø sends its condolences to the family and friends of Don Oslear, the former first-class and international umpire who has died at the age of 89.

Oslear, from Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire, was notable in that he earned five Test match appointments and eight one-day internationals – including the 1983 World Cup semi final between England and India at Old Trafford – even though he did not play first-class cricket.

In total he stood in 360 first-class matches before standing down in 1993 and Chris Kelly, the ºÚÁÏרÇø’s Umpires Manager, said: "Don was a fine example that it was possible to be respected as a first-class and international umpire without any first-class playing experience.

"He gave excellent service to the first-class game, and on behalf of the ºÚÁÏרÇø, we send condolences to his family and friends."
